SOS Mechanic Certificate – Electrical Practice Exam

A high current device is typically designed to draw a significant amount of electrical current in order to function. Water heaters are a prime example of such devices. They require high levels of energy to rapidly heat water, which translates to higher current draw compared to other common electrical devices.

In contrast, light bulbs generally operate on lower current levels, particularly standard incandescent or LED bulbs, which do not demand as high a current as water heaters. Power strips are merely connectors that allow multiple devices to be plugged in but do not themselves consume high current; rather, they distribute the current among connected devices. Remote controls operate on very low voltage and current, mainly because they are designed for short-range communication and control, usually powered by small batteries.

Therefore, water heaters stand out as a high current device due to their requirement for substantial energy to perform their function effectively.
